Trip # 112
Hiking the Central UP

There are many areas that offer outstanding hiking opportunities in the Central Upper Peninsula and that will result in a day well spent up here.
Namely, Grand Island and the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Munising and in Marquette Sugarloaf and Hogsback Mountains. Grand Island and Pictured Rocks are all day adventures while Sugarloaf and Hogsback are shorter, about 3 hours each.
Hikers will want to check out the portion of the North Country Trail that cross Marquette County on its way from New York to North Dakota. Beautiful overlooks from Hogback Mountain and scenic shoreline along Wetmore's Landing are two of the highlights. Another popular spot includes the McCormick Wilderness north of Michigamme.
The Noquemanon Trail Network provides an interconnected trail system through Marquette County. Two of the trails for hikers and bikers include the Noquemanon Trail and the Harlow Lake Pathway extending from Tourist Park in Marquete north to the Harlow Lake recreation area.
Value Cost: guided trips $200 for 2 people per day.
Persons 3-6 $50.
Note: Hiking Trips can also be accomplished unguided.
